ROOS FLOODS

June rainfall throughout the country was the highest ever recorded.

On June 25th, Holderness was subject to further torrential rainfall. Over 4 inches of rain fell in 24 hours. Low lying areas throughout the parish were flooded causing extensive damage to both property and crops.

Roos was the worst affected. The village centre became a lake in minutes, inundating around 50 properties and businesses. In parts, floodwater reached depths of up to 8ft as Roos Beck overflowed.

The parish council is undertaking a detailed investigation of the causes and a review of its own emergency arrangements. However, at this stage many believe that blocked filter grills and other obstructions along Roos Beck to be the major cause.
